Brittany Miskowiec, PhD, MSW, LICSW

Dr. Miskowiec is the owner of Mental Wellness Therapy and Consulting, LLC and offers training, education, consulting, and psychological autopsy services. She has worked as a licensed independent clinical social worker and suicidologist for nearly 15 years. Her education includes a PhD in Leadership and Human Resource Development with a concentration in Adult Education, Master of Social Work, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a certification in interdisciplinary trauma studies.

As a clinical social worker, Dr. Miskowiec has extensive experience working with the military, emergency responders, and people with suicide experiences. In her work with each of these populations and settings, Dr. Miskowiec has focused on suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention throughout her career. She’s previously served as the Director of Psychological Health for the Minnesota Army National Guard and the Director of the Code 3 Project, a comprehensive suicide prevention program for emergency responders in Minnesota. Currently, Dr. Miskowiec contracts with Ellie Family Services as the Coordinator of Emergency Responder Services and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator. Dr. Miskowiec has been instrumental in developing suicide prevention policies and programs at the state and national levels.

In her work as a suicidologist, Dr. Miskowiec has published articles, written grants, presented at international conferences, and developed policies and programs. She has served as the Director of the Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors team, an active postvention team of individuals who function as first responders to suicide scenes, facilitated survivors of suicide support groups, and children’s bereavement groups. She is also a certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator by the American Association of Suicidology.

Dr. Miskowiec has taught in higher education for almost a decade. She currently teaches in the social work program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the Master of Social Work program at Walden University. In addition to higher education, Dr. Miskowiec provides customized training and education program to a variety of organizations in areas such as suicide prevention, mental health, trauma, stress, and coping skills. She is also a trainer for internationally recognized Living Works programs, suicideTALK, safeTALK, and ASIST as well as the National Council of Behavioral Health’s Adult Mental Health First Aid.
