Jessica Van Berkum, MA, LMFT
Jessica began with children and families in 2014. Jessica has a background in
parenting assessments, supervised visitation, and complex family systems.
Jessica’s experience includes working with individual, couples/relational issues, and family relationships, families going through divorce, as well as parenting skills. Jessica’s past work includes private practice, school based, Youth ACT, and outpatient treatment. Jessica enjoys all components of family systems. Jessica completed the Complex Family Systems training through Family Systems Consultants.

Terri Bly, PsyD, LP
Terri Bly is a licensed clinical psychologist who has worked with individuals and couples since 2005 in a variety of settings, including college counseling centers, bariatric surgery programs, a Human Resources consulting firm, and mental health clinics. She began working with separated and divorced couples in 2016, after completing her Rule 114 Certified Divorce Mediation Training at the Erickson Mediation Institute. Since then, she has received training in Discernment Counseling at the Doherty Relationship Institute in Minneapolis, and completed the High Conflict Coparenting course through William James College. Since joining Ellie Family Services in 2018, about half of Terri’s practice has focused on families and family members
affected by separation or divorce, including children 12-18, parents, co-parents and blended families. Terri is part of the Complex Family Systems team, serving as the Clinical Advisor and Specialist, leading Rule 29 consultation groups and providing individual consultations to therapists working with complex families.

This training will discuss the differences in therapies with families going through separation and divorce. Topics will cover common themes, differing issues to expect from families, and helpful interventions. The training will speak to importance of the work and provide additional resources for resources and trainings.

Objectives

  1. Discuss common challenges and benefits to working with families going
    through separation/divorce.
  2. Identify differences between discernment therapy, family therapy, and
    reunification therapy. Knowing what services are appropriate for your
    client(s).
  3. Explore therapeutic interventions and working with multiple people in
    complex situations.
